CABARET NOWADAYS

We open a new section dedicated to music. To music that may cause scenic landscapes. Any kind of music that can inhabit a stage. That can empathize with the movement of a dancer. That can translate the inner world of a theatrical character or create the atmosphere of a dramatic situation. That give breath to words. That support or contradict the silence.

Dramatic music. On any given day. On Tuesdays, for example. On a Tuesday, why not. At midnight, though. Because night wraps up often our visions.

Noël Akchoté

We start with Noël Akchoté and his cabaret of senses. Akchoté is a musician that revitalizes and restores the genre all its modernity. Born in Paris in 1968 and in 1990 he is already an acclaimed guitarist full of vitality and intuition who faces music styles such as experimental or free jazz, always leaving clear his mastery in the field of improvisation. He has collaborated with a long list of musicians like Henri Texier, Louis Sclavis, Daniel Humair, Jacques Thollot, Sam Rivers, but mainly with Derek Bailey, Eugene Chadbourne, Fred Frith, Evan Parker, Lol Coxhill, Tim Berne and George Lewis. In his solo discography there are titles like J’en doute encore (notes sur le travail) (1999), Perpetual Joseph (2003) with Rectangle or So Lucky (2007) with Winter & Winter label with which he made great contributions.

We chose two of them, Au Bordel - Souvenirs de Paris (1999) and Cabaret Modern. A Night at the Magic Mirror Tent (2004) and we have selected three themes which we consider emblematic of this trend inspired by classic themes of cabaret between the wars in countries like France or Germany and gives them a new sound, a fully contemporary flavor without losing the essence of its origins.

Don't forget to mute the general music
